Abstract
Produced water generated from oil refinery desalting unit requires proper treatment to adhere to stringent regulations before discharging or recycling into the processing area. In this research, desalter’s produced water from PP(M)SB (PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn. Bhd.) was treated via AFC99 tubular thin film composite polyamide RO membrane and were investigated concerning TMP, feed pH and feed-solution concentration. The experimental results indicated that AFC99 membrane removed 100% of TSS and salinity, and more than 95% of COD, salts ions and TDS. This work shows that the RO membrane was feasible and technically viable to be used for optimum salts and contaminants removal from produced water of the desalting unit. Besides, the treated water (permeate) fulfills the watering standards and can be used for recycling and other purposes.
